Change between endometrial morphology and proliferating cell nuclear antigen index during hormone replacement therapy

Abstract
Objectives： To compare the endometrial morphology were proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) index after hormone replacement therapy(HRT).
Design： Endometrium of the normal proliferative phase, secretory phase and postmenopause with or without HRT were chosen to observe the morphology and to detect the PCNA index. According to pathology diagnosis the endometrial samples were divided into two groups: proliferative and secretory phase. The level of PCNA was detected in both groups.
Results： The endometrial morphology of normal menstrual cycle was coincidence with PCNA index in reflecting the endometrial proliferation and inhibition. However, after HRT the endometrial morphology changed in different way. The level of PCNA index was not in concert with the endometrial morphology. It was high even if in some secretory endometrium.
Conclusion: This study suggests that the endometrial morphological changes were much different after the effect of estrogen and progestin. More markers should be used to evaluate the proliferation and inhibition of endometrium after HRT besides the endometrial morphology.关键词
