Abstract

Chitosan is modified by α-ketoglutaric acid via Schiff-basereaction and the resulting product (KCTS) is investigated in relation to its adsorption behavior for metal ions such as Cu (Ⅱ), Zn (Ⅱ), and Co (Ⅱ). The results indicate that the modified chitosan has the highest adsorption capacities in the adsorbents, its adsorption capacities (pH=7.0) for Cu (Ⅱ),Zn (Ⅱ), Co (Ⅱ) are 245.89, 177.63, 65.17 mg/g, respectively. The effects of metal ion concentration, pH, adsorbent dosage and adsorption time on the adsorption behavior are also investigated by orthogonal test method. Adsorption properties are affected more by the variations of metal ion concentration and pH than adsorbent dosage and adsorption time.
