Abstract

Using the method of temporal-spatial substitution, the research on the soil development during the vegetation restoration in Nan'ao Island was conducted. During vegetation restoration in the order of degraded grassland→artificial forests→secondary forests, the pH value of soil was decreasing gradually, while the soil total nitrogen, available phosphorus and exchangeable Ca, K, Mg were increasing gradually. Due to the quick decay of the grass litter, the soil organic matter in degraded grassland was higher than that in 10 year-old artificial forest communities 2 and 3,but lower than that in communities 4, 5 and 8. The trend of increase of soil nutrient was similar to that of the amount of litterfall. Due to the different conditions, the exchangeable Ca、K、Mg in the soil of the island were much higher than those of the mainland. The amelioration of the soil would in turn promote the vegetation restoration in the island.
