Abstract

Yttrium silicates coatings were deposited on SiC-C/C composites surface by a noval hydrothermal electrophoretic deposition process using yttrium silicates nano-crystallites,iso-propanol and siodine as source materials,solvent and charging agent,respectively. The yt-trium silicates nano-crystallites were pre-prepared by a sonochemical process. Phase compo-sitions,surface and cross-section microstructures of the as-prepared multi-coatings were characterized by XRD and SEM. The influences of deposition temperatures on the micro-structures and oxidation resistance of the yttrium silicates coatings were particularly investi-gated. Results show that the as-prepared coatings are composed by yttrium silicates crystal-lites with the main phase of Y2Si2O7. The thickness and the density of the yttrium silicates coatings improve with the increase of deposition temperatures. Compared with SiC coating prepared by pack cementation,the multi-layer coatings prepared with a later hydrothermal electrophoretic deposition process exhibit better anti-oxidation property. The as-prepared multi-coatings could effectively protect C/C composites from oxidation at 1 773 K in air for 35 h with a weight loss of 0. 32×10-3 g/cm2.
