Abstract

A 3D C/SiC-(W-C) composite was prepared by combining chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) technology with solution impregnation method. The phase composition and microstructure of the composite before and after ablation were investigated by XRD, and SEM, respectively. The ablation properties of as-prepared C/SiC-(W-C) composite were studied.The XRD results show that the main phases of the as-prepared composite are WC, W, SiC and C while those of the ablated surface are WO3, W and SiC. SEM analysis implies that not only inter-bundle pores but also intra-bundle pores are filled by W-C. The as-prepared C/SiC-(W-C) composite attains a density of 3.3 g/cm3 with the apparent porosity of 11%. Its linear and mass ablation rates are 4. 3×10-2mm/s and 7. 2 × 10-3g/s, respectively.
