Abstract

Using XPS analyses the chemical types of nitrogen of ten different types of Chinese coals and their semi cokes from flash hydropyrolysis (FHP) are studied. The result shows that XPS can effectively determine the chemical types of nitrogen in coal and semi-coke. Peak of XPS locates in 398.8 ( + 0.1 ) eV and 400.2 ( + 0.1 ) eV, which corresponds to pyrrole and pyrridinic. The nitrogen types are different in coals but mainly are pyrrole and pyrridinic, and often the pyrrole is more than pyrridinic. The nitrogen type in coke from FHP is as the same as in coal. In FHP, the relative content of pyrrole increases and pyrridinic reduces. Therefore, it was put forward that flash hydropyrolysis is a new important clean-coal-technique and has notable effect of denitrogenation.
