Abstract

The NO-char reduction in the presence and absence of mineral matter was studied. Four Chinese coals with different ranks from lignite to anthracite were demineralized with HC1/HF and the chars were prepared by devolatilizing the deashed coals and their original coals in a quartz fluidized-bed reactor. NO reduction by the resulting chars was conducted in a quartz fixed bed at atmospheric pressure. The results showed that alkali metal Na and alkali earth metal Ca catalyzed the NO-char reaction significantly. However, the catalytic effect of Fe in the mineral matter was weak due to the inhibition of inert composition. Kinetics data of NO-reaction reduction by coal chars in the presence and absence of mineral matter were obtained. Two temperature regimes were found in the NO-char reaction, which suggested the mechanism shift in the transition temperature.
