Abstract
Objective To study the protective effect of the basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) on guinea pig vestibules injured by gentamicin in vivo. Methods Guinea pigs were treated with subcutaneous injection of gentamicin for 10 days continuously. Inner ears were injured. At the same time, guinea pigs of the experimental group were treated intraperitoneally with the injection of bFGF, and the control group was treated with normal saline. Vestibular functions of both groups were tested, and vestibular end organs were observed by scanning electronic microscopy. Results Vestibules of the control group were hurt more severely than those of the experimental group. Conclusion bFGF can protect guinea pigs, vestibules in vivo from gentamicin injury.
