摘要
Abstract
[Objective] To investigate the effect of berberine on heart weight/body weight ratio, myocardial mor-phology and perexisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) α/γ/δ protein expression in diabetic rats. [Methods] Type 2 diabetes mellitus rats were induced by a injection of 35 mg/kg streptozotocin (STZ) and a high-carbohydrate/high-fat diet for 16 weeks. From week 17 to 32, low, middle, high-dose of berberine (75, 150, 300 mg/kg), fenofi-brate (100 mg/kg) and resiglitazone (4 mg/kg) were given to diabetic rats, respectively. The myocardium structure was observed with hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining and PPARα/γ/δ protein expression was detected by immunohisto-chemistry. [Results] Middle-dose, high-dose of berberine decreased the diabetic heart weight/body weight ratio (P<0.01) and improved myocardial hypertrophy and interstitial fibrosis of diabetic rats. PPARγ protein was seldom de-tected in myocardium; middle-dose, high-dose berberine and fenofibrate strikingly restored the decreased PPARα and PPARδ expression in diabetic mycardium to near control level (P<0.01). [Conclusion] Berberine modulates PPARα/δ protein expression in diabetic myocardium which may contribute to decrease heart weight/body weight ratio and ameliorate myocardium damage.关键词
