Abstract

CeO2 nanoparticles are prepared by an alcohothermal process and then used as supports for CuO/CeO2 catalysts prepared via impregnation method. The X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and N2 sorption analytic results show that the as-prepared CeO2 has good crystallinity and large surface area. Temperature-programmed reduction (TPR) and X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS) analysis indicate that there are different copper species in the CuO/CeO2 catalysts. The calcination temperatures affect the activity of CuO/CeO2 catalysts and the supported copper oxide catalysts exhibit obviously higher catalytic activity than pure CuO and CeO2 due to the synergistic effect.
