Abstract

It becomes a common practice to determine time for conducting preventive maintenance (PM) using a hazard function and an alarm limit on a specified failure rate. In this paper, the authors argue that using both hazard and reliability functions can improve the accuracy of the result, especially when the whole-life characteristic failure is modelled using different failure distributions. The PM time predicted based on the hazard function should be checked against reliability.
