Abstract

Objective:To investigate the expression of leukemia inhibiObjective:Tory facObjective:Tor(LIF)in lung of ovalbumin sensitized and challenged rats for evaluating the role of LIF in pathogenesis of asthma.Methods:Asthma rat model sensitized and challenged by ovalbumin was established.The expression of LIF at mRNA and protein levels in the lung was detected by RT-PCR and western blotting.Results: Expression of LIF protein in the lungs of asthma rats(40832 ± 12964)was significantly elevated compared with control(23110 ± 8018,P<0.01)and dexamethasone therapy(DXM)rats(16160 ± 2108,P<0.01),but no difference was found between control group and DXM group(P > 0.05).Expression of LIF mRNA in lungs of asthma rats(0.51 ± 0.13)was significantly elevated compared with control(0.24 ±0.02,P<0.01)and DXM rats(0.18 ±0.05,P<0.01),but no difference was found between control and DXM rats also(P > 0.05).Conclusions: The expression of LIF at protein and mRNA levels are elevated significantly in ovalbumin sensitized rats,which indicates that LIF may play an important role in pathogenesis of asthma as a neuroimmune modulator.
