STUDIES ON PHASE TRANSFORMATION IN THE 3Y-TZP/Al2O3 COMPOSITE POWDERS

Abstract
3Y-TZP/Al2O3 nanometer powders were prepared by coprecipitation method. The effects of Al2O3 content and calcining temperature on phase structure and ZrO2 lattice parameter were studied. The results show that only t-ZrO phase is found when the composite powders are calcined at 800 ℃ for 1h and that the ZrO2 lattice parameter gradually decrease with increasing Al2O3 mass fraction up to 10%. However, with Al2O3 mass fraction of 20% the lattice parameter increase slightly. When calcined at 1 200 ℃, α-Al2O3 phase begin to form and the effect of Al2O3 on ZrO2 lattice parameter are reduced. When sintered at 1 450 ℃, the phase transformation into α-Al2O3 has finished and Al2O3 has no effect on ZrO2 lattice parameter. Theoretical calculation of ZrO2 lattice parameter and 3Y-TZP/Al2O3 density are made, based on which a better understanding can be achieved on the dissolving, separation and phase transformation of Al2O3 in ZrO2 lattice.关键词
