Mechanical Properties, Morphology, and Thermal Behavior of Completely Biodegradable Poly(propylene carbonate)/Starch Composites

Abstract
Completely biodegradable composites of poly (propylene carbonate) (PPC) reinforced with unmodified corn starch were prepared by solution casting method. The effects of reinforcement on the morphology, static and dynamic mechanical properties, as well as thermal properties of PPC/starch composites were investigated. Compared with pure PPC resin, the introduction of starch improved the stiffness of the composites significantly, and enhanced the tensile strength to some extent when the starch content was less than 35% (wB). Scanning electron microscopic (SEM) examination revealed the good intedacial adhesion between the fillers and PPC matrix. Gel permeation chromatography (GPC) results showed that the molecular weights of PPC matrices in composite increased compared with that of pure PPC. Moreover, experimental results indicated that the starch addition leaded to a significant improvement in the ther-mal stability of the composites.关键词
