Properties of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and their toxicity on algae
摘要
Abstract
Contamination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the environment is a serious public health problem and the impact of PAHs on human beings and ecosystems has attracted increasing public and academic concern.However, information related to the properties of PAHs and their toxicity on algae seems to be meager and widely scattered in spite that algae serve as major primary producers and play an important role in aquatic ecosystems, and any changes in algal community are likely to lead to major ecological consequences in aquatic ecosystems. The present review first describes the chemical structures and general properties of PAHs, then briefly introduces the sources and fate of PAHs in the environment and finally encompasses the toxicity of PAHs on algae, with emphasis on the activation of the toxicity of PAHs and algal species-specific differences in sensitivity to PAHs.关键词
