Abstract
ObjectiveTo investigate expression of α-catenin in colorectaladenocarcinomas and its relationship with differentiation,depth of local invasiveness,lymph node metastasis and Dukes stage of the tumor.Methods α-catenin expression was evaluated immunohistochemically in 58 paraffin-embeded colorectal carcinoma and 10 normal colon mucosa specimens.Results In 58.6% (34/58) of the tumors,reduced α-catenin immunoreactivities were detected and were associated with loss of differenciation,lymph node metastasis and Dukes stage (P<0.01,<0.01 and <0.05,respectively),but no significant relation was found between α-catenin expression and local tumor invasion depth of invasion(P>0.05).Conclusion Down-regulation of α-catenin expression is frequent in colorectal cancer.α-catenin may be a sensitive predictor of lymph node metastasis of this tumor.关键词
