Abstract
Objective: To discuss the levels of interleukin-8 in elderly patients with chronic heart failure (CHF) and its change after fosinopril treatment. Methods: Levels of serun interleukin-8 (IL-8) in 40 elderly patients with CHF and 20 healthy controls were investigated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The elderly patients with CHF were randomized to receive routine therapy(routine group, n =19) or fosinopril in addition to routine therapy (fosinopril group, n =21) for 3 weeks, theirs evaluations were made before and after treatment. Results: Level of IL-8 in the elderly CHF patients was significantly higher than that in the controls, and negatively related to left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) (r=-0.45, P＜0.05). After treatment, the level of IL-8 was decreased in fosinopril group (P＜0.05), accompanied with lowered heart rates and increased LVEF (P＜0.05). Conclusions: Elevated IL-8 level is present in patients with CHF. Fosinopril treatment can decrease the serum IL-8 level in elderly patients with CHF, which may play an important role in improvement of the left ventricular function.关键词
