Abstract
Objective: The aim of this study was to assess and compare the embryo morphology and clinical outcome between two methods where embryos were generated either from intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) or from conventional in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET).
Methods: Ninety-three consecutive cycles undergoing conventional IVF(45 cycls) or (48 cycls) therapy during June lst and December 31 th 1999 were studied. All eggs and embryos were cultured in Earle's or HTF medium supplemented with 10% inactived maternal serum in a humidified gas environment of 5% CO2. In ICSI therapy oocytes were injected with sperm using standard ICSI protocols. In conventional IVF each oocyte was inseminated with approximately 50 000 motile sperms. The best quality embryos were transferred on day 2 (post-insemination), whereas supernumerary embryoswere frozen. Fertilization rate, embryo quality and clinical endpoints were assessed and statistical significance was tested via SPSS/PC 6.0.
Results: The average and the mean infertile duration of female patients were comparable in the two treatment groups (IVF 30.9 yrs and 7.35 yrs, ICSI 30.1 yrs and 6.71 yrs).The number of oocytes collected or fertilized and the number of grade A or B embryos per cycle had no significant difference between the two methods. There was also no difference either in clinical pregnancy rate or in baby delivered rate per cycle.
Conclusions: In this study most parameters were found to be similar. The ICSI and conventional IVF provided essentially similar reproductive outcomes.关键词
