Abstract
The tensile properties of austempered ductile iron (ADI) were tested in condition of contact with water and its fracture mechanism was investigated in this paper. Both tensile strength and elongation of the iron were decreased drastically, it exhibited remarkable water-embrittlement in condition of contact with water. Especially, ADI austempered specimens of the iron in process window showed more remarkable embrittlement than others. White spot region regarded as fracture initiation point was observed on fracture surface tested in contact with water. From this result, it was suggested that embrittlement behavior of ADI resulted from a local embrittlement near the surface of specimen during plastic deformation and it led to a rapid fracture of the entire specimen.关键词
