Abstract

NiCl2 (bpy) catalyzed polycondensation between pdibromobenzene and mdibromobenzene has been carried out under various conditions. Using the polycondensation, a series of copolymers with an Mn of 2400 (by GPC, polystyrene standards) was formed and some samples have good solubility in organic solvents. The IR spectra, UV spectra measured in a THF solution of the copolymer show that there are pphenyl and mphenyl units in copolymer. According to analysis of DSC, TGA and Xray, with the increase of molar ratio of mphenyl units in the copolymer the glass transfer temperature, temperature of viscous flow and crystallizability of polyphenylene copolymer are decreased, The fluorescence spectra of the copolymer measured in a THF solution show an emission maximum at 373 ~ 376 nm, while for the film the maximum is shift to 436.6 nm.
