Abstract
Some commonly understood and generally accepted aspects of the chrome tanning reaction are analysed,with a view to correcting misapprehensions.They are:chromium(Ⅲ)as a solo tannage,the role of sulphate in the chrome tanning mechanism,the size and shape of the chrome species,basicity of bound chrome,crosslinking,reaction sites on collagen,the roles of Ph and temperature,reactivity at high basicity,the role of ethanolamine,the masking reaction,multidentate masking,the roles of masking agents,the stability of chrome tanned leather,semi chrome leather.关键词
