Design and Implementation of a Data-Driven Parallel Video Codec

Abstract
Generic video codec systems are based upon standard compression algorithms such as MPEG4 and H.264. Since these standard algorithms include high-complexity computation like discrete cosine transform and motion estimation, they are generally implemented by hardware-based methods for real-time applications.However, such kinds of codec systems endure long-period implementation, expensive spending and poor flex-ibility because they are hardwired. This paper introduces a data-driven parallel video codec system that uses a low-complexity Adaptive Block Truncation-Coding (ABTC) scheme. The efficiency of the codec system introduced is confirmed using standard video sequences.关键词
