INFLUENCE OF COBALT DOPING ON STRUCTURE AND ELECTRICAL PROPERTIES OF BARIUM TITANATE CERAMICS

Abstract
BaTi1-xCoxO3 (x is the mole fraction of Co, x=0.01, 0.03, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, and 0.4) powders were prepared by a wet chemical process, and the influence of Co on the crystal structure and electrical properties were investigated. With the increase of Co concentration, the phase structure changes from tetragonal phase to tetragonal/hexagonal composite, and the ceramics are composed of pure hexagonal phase when x=0.2. The ceramics have a cubic phase besides the hexagonal one when x>0.2. The room-temperature resistance decreases and the temperature dependence of resistance changes from a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) effect to a negative temperature coefficient (NTC) effect when the Co concentration increased. The B constants for x=0.2, 0.3 and 0.4 are 3 270, 3 234 K and 3 037 K, respectively. The NTC behavior of ceramics can be understood by using the polaron hopping model.关键词
