Abstract

Equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) has been the subject of intensive study in recent years due to its capability of producing fully dense samples having a ultrafine grain size and having lots of excellent mechanical properties.In this study,the results of the finite element analysis of Cu-10% Cr material during the ECAP process using Eshelby's equivalent inclusion method were presented.And the two cases,die with ψ= 90°and ψ= 120°,were investigated,including the equivalent strain distribution,the transient variation of strain and deformed shapes and the hardness distribution of section in sample after one pass.The distribution of strain is more homogeneous in the die with ψ=120°than in the die with ψ=90°.And the shear strain in ECAP using the high channel angle die is lower than that using the low channel angle.Additionally,the hardness distribution of ECAP with ψ=90°and ψ=120° has strong relationship with the distribution of the strain in two cases.The die with ψ=90° result shows the higher hardness values and more severe variation range of the hardness distribution.The difference between the two maximum hardness values is about 8.5%.
