Abstract

A membrane emulsion process has been carried out with water/n-butanol and water/kerosene as working systems in a 0.2 μm micropore ceramic membrane, and sodium dodecylsulfonate and Span 85 were used as emul-sifiers.The effects of the pressure difference between the two sides of the membrane and continuous phase flow rate on droplet size and its distribution as well as the flux of dispersion phase were studied.The experimental results show that membrane emulsification is a process of low energy cost and high monodispersion characteristic. The emulsifiers have important effects on emulsification process.It is found that the pressure difference greatly influences the flux of dispersion phase.With an increase of the pressure difference,the flux of dispersion phase is increased quickly.However,the effect of continuous flow rate and pressure difference on the drop size and its distribution was not found in our experiments.
