Abstract
Objective: To study the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in spinal nerve cells after SCI in SD rats. Methods: 32 SD rats were divided at random into laminectomy and injury groups. The rats in injury group were injured in dorsal side of T10 spinal cord by Allen's stall. The rats were sacrificed at 8 h, 1 d, 2 d, 3 d, 1 w, 2 w and 3 w after surgery to sample spinal cord. Immunohistochemistry (SP) was performed to observe the distribution of VEGF in the spinal cord. Results: No VEGF immunoreactivity existed in normal spinal cords. Strong VEGF immunoreactivity was observed at 8 h after SCI. It peaked from 1 and 3 days and continued for 1 week. After 2 to 3 weeks immunoreactivity deereased significantly (P < 0.01 ). VEGF positive rate of large motor neurons was higher than that of other kinds of nerve cells (P<0.01). The positive rate of glial cells in dorsal white matter was higher than those in gray matter and ventral white matter (P<0.01). Conclusion: The expression of VEGF in nerve cells in the injured spinal area was seen in the early stage of SCI in rats.关键词
