Abstract
Objective To measure plasma visfatin concentrations in women with and without polyeystie ovary syndrome (PCOS), and study the relationship between visfatin and PCOS and obesity. Methods 70 PCOS patients and 60 controis were studied, and were classified as follows: 34 obese [body mass index (BMI)≥ 25] and 36 lean (BMI < 25) with PCOS; 30 obese and 30 lean without PCOS. Plasma visfatin concentrations were assayed by ELISA, and fasting plasma glucose and serum insulin were measured. Results Plasma visfatin concentrations were found to be significantly increased in women with PCOS compared with women without PCOS (P < 0.05). Plasma visfatin concentrations in obese women with PCOS were significantly higher than in lean women with PCOS (P <0.05). Visfatin levels correlated positively with BMI in the PCOS group (r = 0.402, P < 0.05). Conclusion Hypervisfatinemia was evident in women with PCOS, and plasma visfatin levels correlated positively with BMI. Visfatin may participate in the pathogenesis of PCOS and obesity.关键词
