Abstract
RS is at present the primary and effective means of measurementto vegetation changes. GIS provides an efficient tool to analyze the status and the changes of vegetation. In the study, the authors use 1987 vegetation distribution map and 1998 TM Landsat data to construct vegetation map and to measure vegetation changes in Hainan Island with the integration of visual interpretation and supervised classification with GIS. The result shows that human disturbance factors have significant effects on the forest ecosystem. There was an evident change in the man-made vegetation in the study as a whole, but it was not well-distributed. The area of the natural vegetation is decreasing and the degradation of the forest ecosystem is deteriorating.关键词
