FABRICATION OF Al2O3/TiB2/AlN/TiN COMPOSITE CERAMIC BY A HOT-PRESSED SINTERING PROCESS

Abstract
Aluminium (Al), Al3Ti and TiB2 were incorporated into alumina matrix ceramic materials in the form of aluminium titanium boracium (AlTiB) master alloys. Composites of Al2O3/TiB2/AlN/TiN were fabricated by a technique of transitory liquid phase sintering, in which new phases of AlN and TiN were respectively formed by the chemical reactions that take place among Al, Ti and N2 (the protective atmosphere). The hardness, the fracture toughness and the bending strength of the composites were tested. Meanwhile, the relationship between AlTiB content and mechanical properties of alumina matrix ceramic materials was analyzed. The influences of temperature (1 500 ℃and 1 600 ℃) on the relative density and mechanical properties of the composites were described.The effects of fracture mechanism on mechanical properties of the composites were researched together with the refining performance of AlTiB master alloys.关键词
