Abstract
Objective:To improve the results of treatment of genu varum and genu valgum with an new technique of osteotomy.Method:We used a self-designed lateral or medial V-shaped superacondylar osteotomy of femur in treatment of genu varum and genu valgum without using internal fixation.Results:We treated 21 patients(30 sides) with genu valgum and 6 patients (10 sides) with genu varum.The duration of immobilization averaged 65.8 days.The time to the commencement of load bearing was from 75 to 120 days (average 92.6 days) postoperatively.The results of follow up showed that the corrections to the deformities were satisfactory.The movements of the knees were basicly normal.The knee pains and fatigue had abated.X-ray films taken at 60 to 90 days postoperatively showed that the osteotomies had healed solidly, and possesed good apposition and alignment. Even though no internal fixation was used,the osteotomy remained stable and the healing period was shortened.Conclusion:The osteotomy is a simple and reliable alternative of the treatment of genu varum and genu valgum.关键词
