Guangxi is the biggest sugarcane grower in China, and it produced 5.88 million tons of sugar which occupied 58.4% of the total sugar and 62.3% of the cane sugar in China, respectively, in 2003/04 milling year. China has developed a series of unique and effective technologies for sustainable sugarcane and sugar production, especially for sugarcane production in upland condition, which occupies 90% of the total sugarcane production in China, maintaining 60 to 70 tons of millable cane per hectare in recent years.
