Abstract
This article seeks to show that it is necessary in American Letters, and in international scholarship, to view Pearl S. Buck, in the context of her counterparts, the writers who are writing in the same historical period, and not to view her in isolation, or on the fringe of the main stream. Pearl S. Buck would say when she won the Nobel Prize, "What about Dreiser?" Theodore Dreiser was favored for this award, and lost to Pearl S. Buck. Her contemporaries, Edith Wharton and Edna St. Vincent Millay, in America, and Virginia Woolf, in England, were in very different positioning and spheres of literary influence and production, but their paths crossed, and deserve more attention. This will add dimension to Pearl S. Buck's place in the canon of literary history and reposition her, more favorably.关键词
