Abstract

[Objective]The aim was to study the effects of ethylene and 1-MCP on cut flower quality and water balance in the opening and senescence course of peony cut flowers of 'Luoyanghong' during their different opening stages.[Method] With peony cut flowers of 'Luoyanghong' with flowering index of class Ⅰ、Ⅱ and Ⅲ as tested material,the response on different treatments for increasing rate of flower diameter,flowering index,water balance and vase life during peony opening and senescence was determined.[Result] The opening process of cut flower was accelerated,vase life and the duration of the best ornamental period of cut flower were shortened by using 1.0 μl/L exogenous ethylene treatment for 6 h,however,the opening process of cut flower was delayed,vase life prolonged,but the normal opening of cut flower was restrained by adopting 1.0 μl/L 1-MCP treatment for 6 h.The research on water balance value showed that the dynamic change of water balance value was the important factor to affect the senescence of peony cut flowers of 'Luoyanghong',the 1-MCP treatment improved the water balance of cut flower and delayed the time that could make the water balance value as zero.[Conclusion] The 1-MCP prolonged the vase life of cut flower mainly by delaying the opening process of peony cut flowers of 'Luoyanghong'.
