Efficacy of cervical cerclage for cervical incompetence during pregnancy

Abstract
Objective To evaluate the efficacy of cervical cerclage for cervical incompetence during pregnancy. Methods 36 patients with cervical incompetence hospitalized during the period of January to December 2007 were assigned to receive cervical cerclage (cervical cerclage group, 23 patients), or conventional tocolytic therapy (non-cervical cerclage group, 13 patients). The efficacy was compared between the two groups. Results In cervical cerclage group, abortion occurred in 3 patients and premature birth in 8, and 12 patients had a full-term delivery; while in non-cervical cerclage group, abortion developed in 11 patients and premature birth in the remaining 2. Conclusions Cervical cerclage is an effective therapy for cervical incompetence.关键词
