Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To study the effects of Yanshuai mixture (YSM) on serum antioxidant index, interleukin -2 (IL-2) and testosterone (TS) levels of D-galactose induced subacute aging mice. METHODS: 60 mice were randomly divided into normal control group (N), aging model group (M), Bushen yishou capsule group (BSYS) ,YSM low (YSM-L), medium (YSM-M) and high (YSM-H) dose groups. The subacute aging model mice were induced by injecting with D-galactose subcutaneously. At the same time, YSM were administered intragastrically (i.g.) for 8 weeks. Total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, malondialdehyde (MDA) content in serum were measured; IL-2 and TS levels in serum were detected by ELISA.RESULTS: Compared with normal control group, the levels of T-AOC and SOD in serum of aging model group were significantly decreased, while MDA content increased significantly, and levels of IL-2 and TS were significantly reduced (P<0.05). The levels of T-AOC and SOD in serum of YSM high-dose group of mice was increased significantly, while MDA content decreased significantly, the levels of IL-2 and TS in serum of each YSM dose groups were increased significantly, compared with aging model group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: YSM can significantly improve serum antioxidant capacity, inhibit the decline of IL-2 and TS levels in D-galactose induced aging mice, may has good anti-aging effect.
