Further improving maternal health of floating population through distributing a free pregnancy-health handbook: A retrospective case controlled study

Abstract
Objective To assess effect of distributing a free pregnancy-health handbook in promoting prenatal health care of floating population. Methods This retrospective case controll study was conducted through cross-sectional medical history review and spot questionnaire investigation. The subjects in 2008 year group included 761 lying-in women who delivered in Pujiang town hospital of Shanghai in the period after implementation of free “handbook” policy; and those in 2006 year group included 505 lying-in women who delivered in the period before implementation of free “handbook” policy and 3 364 lying-in women in baseline group. Results On basis of systematic management for prenatal examination, implementation of free “handbook” policy further improved prenatal care utility by the floating popualtion. The constituent ratioes of more than 4 to 8 times of prenatal examination were increased in turn: 19.45 ％ in 2006 year group, 30.50％ in the baseline group and 51.38％ in 2008 year group respectively. The rate of cesarean section was 30.10％ (152/505) in 2006 year group, which was significantly higher than that in the baseline group (x2 = 20.503, P = 0.001 ), and that was 22.34％ (170/761) in 2008 year group, there was no significant difference between the 2008 year group and the baseline group (x2 = 0.562, P = 0.453 ). There was a decreasing tendency in incidence of adverse pregnancy outcomes expect premature delivery in the 2008 year group compared with the baseline group. Conclusion The policy of free “handbook” is effective for further promoting prenatal care utility of floating population and preventing their adverse pregnancy outcomes.关键词
