Abstract
Objective To study the expression of Caveolin-1 and MMP-2 proteins in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and its clinical significance. Methods Caveolin-1 and MMP-2 proteins were tested by immunohistochemistry and tissue microarray in 63 cases of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, 20 cases of atypical hyperplnsia and 15 cases of normal esophageal squamous cell. Results The expressions of Caveolin-1 and MMP-2 were significantly higher in esophageal carcinoma than those in normal esophageal mucosa and esophageal dysplasia ( P ＜ 0. 05 ); Caveolin-1 expression in esophageal carcinoma was correlated with lymph node metastasis, pathological gade and clinical stage, but not with age, gender, tumor size and invasive depth ( P ＞ 0. 05 ). MMP-2 expression in esophageal carcinoma was correlated with lymph node metastasis and depth of invasion, but not with age, gender, tumor size, pathological grade and clinical stage( P ＞ 0.05 ). Spearman rank correlation analysis showed that the expression of Caveolin-1 was positively correlated with MMP-2 (r = 0.390, P = 0.002). Conclusion The over-expression of Caveolin-1 and MMP-2 is correlated with development, invasion and metastasis of esophageal carcinoma, and the Caveolin-1 might increase the activity of MMP-2.关键词
