Abstract

The degradable performance and bio-mineralization function of poly (lactic acid) tissue engineering scaffolds in simulated body fluid (SBF) were systematically studied by measuring the pH value of SBF, the rates of weight lost of scaffolds, the molecular weight change of materials, and characterization of the scaffolds was carried out by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffractometry (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. It was found in SBF that the molecular weight of scaffolds decreased with the prolongation of time. However, the weight of scaffolds did not always decrease with the prolongation of time. The XRD and FTIR showed that there was the deposition of bone-like carbonate hydroxyl apatite on the surfaces of the scaffolds.
