Abstract

A simulated and accelerated corrosion test method for the carbon/epoxy composite was investigated, based on the marine atmosphere. According to the local meteorological data, a primary simulated and accelerated corrosion method has been obtained. Through the corrosion test, the carbon/epoxy composite was destroyed extensively. In order to get further information, the mechanical test and micro-morphology observation (SEM) were carried out. The results show that the radiation, temperature and/or humidity could cause extensive corrosion to the surface and interior of the carbon/ epoxy composite and make an attack to the interface between matrix and carbon fiber. By the comparison with the results of the natural environment corrosion, it is confirmed that the simulation of the corrosion test method is relatively good.
