Effects of low dose ketamine pretreatment on fentanyl-induced cough
摘要
Abstract
Objective To investigate the effects of low dose ketamine pretreatment on fentanyl-induced cough. Methods One hundred patients scheduled for elective surgery with general anesthesia were equally randomized to receive the intravenous injection of 0.2 mg/kg ketamine (ketamine group) or equal volume of 0.9%saline (control group) within 5 s 1 min before intravenous administration of fentanyl 2 μg/kg within 5 s during anesthesia induction. Cough incidence, cough severity (mild: coughing 1 ~ 2 times; moderate: 3-5 times; and severe: > 5 times), and the time of the first cough were observed for 2 min after fentanyl administration. Mean arterial blood pressure, heart rate, and pulse oximetry oxygen saturation (SpO2) were recorded before giving ketamine or saline (T1) and 2 min after fentanyl injection (T2). Results Ketamine group showed significantly lower cough incidence than control group (12% vs. 36%, P < 0.05). The time of the first cough was longer in ketamine group than that in control group [ (24 ± 4)s vs. (19 ± 4 )s, P < 0.05]. There was no significant difference in cough severity between these two groups. Conclusion Low dose of ketamine (0.2 mg/kg Ⅳ) pretreatment may reduce fentanyl-induced cough and delay the time of the first cough.关键词
