Abstract
A technique for predicting nonlinear settlement of foundations in cohesionless soil is proposed by using correctional chord-modulus (CCM) feedback solved from the data of plate loading test. It is verified by the loading test results for spread footings on sand performed by Briaud and Gibbens in1993. In verification,CCM is determined by back analysis of field monitoring data of loading test for 1 m × 1 m footing; then layerwise summation method is adopted to predict the curve of whole process of settlement for 1.5 m× 1.5 m,2.5 m× 2.5 m and 3 m× 3 m spread footings from the beginning of loading to limit state. The results show that all calculation curves of loading settlement of footings are consistent with the measured curve; the relative error between predicted load creating 25 mm and 150 mm of settlement after 30 minutes of load application and measurement value is less than 10%. Moreover, comparing the results offered by 31 experts and scholars participating in the spread footing prediction symposium, the most accurate results are obtained in this paper. It is also shown that the CCM method can take into account the size effect of foundation settlement, so as to satisty the design requirements of settlement controlling for foundation works.关键词
