摘要

Abstract

Objective To explore changes of estrous cycle and ovarian morphology in amygdale-kindled seizures female rats. Methods Thirty-five SD female rats aged 8 weeks were randomly divided into epilepsy model (n=15), sham-operation (n = 10) and control groups (n=10). Kindling electrodes were implanted in the left basolateral amygdala in the female rats of model group. The rats were kindled by brief, daily, suprathreshold stimulations with a bipolar electrode. The sham-kindled rats only had bipolar electrode implanted in the left basolateral amygdala. Controls were normal female rats. Estrous cycles were monitored with daily vaginal smears. Electrographic and behavioral seizures were monitored, right ovary tissues were taken after 20 days of kindled in the diestrus. At the same time, sham-kindled subjects and their yoked controls were sacrificed and their right ovaries were taken in their diestrus. Ovarian morphometric analyses were made. Results Kindled rats lost ovarian periodicity and they displayed significant weight gain and ovarian increase (P<0.05). The results of HE staining showed that compared with control group and sham-kindled group, kindled female rats had enlarged ovaries with numerous growing follicles, especially many preantral follicles, and the total number of follicles and atretic follicles increased (P<0.05). The ovarian in model group exhibited polycystic changes. Conclusion Seizures initiated in amygdala result in polycystic ovary and loss of ovarian periodicity.
