Abstract
Objective : To detect the expression of PLK1 and p53 proteins in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma ( ESCC ) and to analyze their clinicopathological significance . Methods : The expression of PLK1 and p53 proteins was detected by immunohistochemistry in 87 ESCC specimens , 53 tumor-adjacent dysplastic tissue specimens and 42 normal esophageal mucosa specimens . Statistical analysis was performed using the chi-square test. Results: The positive rates of PLK1 and p53 protein expression differed significantly among ESCC , dysplasia and normal esophageal mucosa ( PLK1 : 57. 5%、50. 9% and 26. 2% ; p53 :48. 3% 、52. 8% and 23. 8% ) . The expression of PLK1 and p53 protein was related with ESCC and normal esophageal mucosa ( X2 = 11. 119 and X2 = 7. 047 , all P < 0. 05 ) ; The expression of PLK1 ancl p53 protein was related with dysplasia and normal esophageal mucosa ( X2 =5. 982 and X2 = 8. 223 , all P <0. 05 ) ; The expression of PLK1 and p53 protein wasn't related with ESCC and dysplasia ( X2 =0. 567 and X2 =0. 273,all P >0. 05 ) . Overexpression of PLK1 and p53 protein was related with lymph node metastasis and TNM stage in ESCC ( all P < 0. 05 ) . PLK1 protein expression was found to be correlated with the depth of tumor invasion ( P <0. 01 ) . A negative correlation was also noted between the expression of PLK 1 and that of p53 in ESCC ( r = -0. 286 , P <0. 01 ) . Conclusion : Overexpression of PLK1 and p53 proteins is associated with ESCC invasion and metastasis . Combined detection of PLK1 and p53 protein expression is helpful for evaluation of the prognosis of ESCC .关键词
