Abstract

Objective To investigate the influence of Ginkgo biloba extracts on the L-type calcium channel protein mRNA expression of the cardiomyocyte in the experimental type 2 diabetes rats, so as to study the therapeutic effect of ginkgo biloba extracts on the type 2 diabetes. Methods Diabetes rat model were induced by high glucose and high fat feedstuff and low-dosage streptozotocin. The 20 rats were randomized into diabetes group, therapy group, and 10 additional normal rates were taken as control group. The rats in therapy group were lavaged with ginkgo biloba extracts, the other two groups were lavaged with 0. 9% NaCl injection. After ten weeks, mRNA expressions of the L - type calcium channel protein of all groups were detected by RT-PCR. Results The expressions of the L- type Calcium protein mRNA in each group were ( 0. 157 ± 0. 028 ), ( 0. 257 ± 0. 025 ), and ( 0. 226 ± 0. 029 ) respectively, the differences were significant ( F = 28. 232, P = 0. 000 ). The expressions of the L -type Calcium protein mRNA of diabetes group and therapy group were significantly higher than that of the control group, while the therapy group was significantly lower than the model group. ( P <0. 05 ). After 10 weeks, the level of blood glucose in diabetes group was significantly increased compared with control group, while it is significantly decreased in the therapy group compared with diabetes group ( P < 0. 05 ). Conclusion Ginkgo biloba extracts can decrease the blood glucose and the L-type calcium channel protein mRNA expression in the cardiomyocyte of the type 2 diabetes rats. Ginkgo biloba extracts have therapeutic effect on type 2 diabetes.
