Abstract
Objective To explore the relationship of Twist protein expression to the development of colon carcinoma. Methods Streptavidin biotin complex ( SABC ) immunohistochemistry was performed to detect the Twist protein expression in 70 cases of colon carcinoma tissues and cutting edge tissues. Results The Twist protein expression was higher in colon carcinoma tissues than in cutting edge ( 72. 9％ vs 12. 9％, P ＜ 0. 01 ). There was significant difference in Twist protein expression between different TNM stages of colon carcinoma tissues ( stage Ⅰ 10. 0％ , stage Ⅱ 66.7％ , stage Ⅲ 88. 0％ , stage Ⅳ 100. 0％ , P ＜ 0. 01 ); and the level of Twist protein expression was significantly higher in stages Ⅲ and Ⅳ than in stages Ⅰ and Ⅱ( P ＜ 0. 008 ) . Conclusion Twist protein expression in colon carcinoma tissues increases with the invasion and metastasis,suggesting that Twist protein expression may play a certain role in such biological processes as development and invasion of colon carcinoma and can be used as one of biological indicators detecting progress of malignant tumors.关键词
