半夏泻心汤辅治功能性消化不良42例
Banxia Xiexin Decoction in Adjuvant Treatment of Functional Dyspepsia: A Report of 42 Cases

Abstract
Objective To observe the therapeutic effects of Banxia Xiexin Decoction, a representative traditional Chinese prescription for epigastric fullness and distension in the book of Treatise on Febrile Diseases, in adjuvant treatment of functional dyspepsia (FD) and its effect on plasma level of motilin (MTL). Methods Eighty-two patients with FD were randomized into treatment group and control group. Forty patients in control group were treated with drugs for inhibiting the secretion of gastric acid, eliminating Helicobacter pylori, promoting gastric motility, and psychological counseling and antidepressive therapies if necessary, according to the therapeutic regimen for FD in western medicine. Additionally, forty-two patients in treatment group were treated with Banxia Xiexin Decoction on the basis of western medical therapies. Before treatment and four weeks after treatment, the levels of MTL, and the total effective rate as well as the improvement of main symptoms were observed and compared between the two groups.Results Four weeks after treatment, the total effective rate was 95. 2％ in treatment group, being significantly higher than 77. 5％ in control group. The plasma level of MTL in treatment group was significantly higher than that in control group. Treatment group was superior to control group in ameliorating epigastric pain, epigastric distension, epigastric burning sensation, belching, and abdominal distension. Conclusion Banxia Xiexin Decoction can ameliorate clinical symptoms in FD patients via increasing plasma level of MTL to regulate gastrointestinal dysfunction.关键词
