Abstract

BNU F-A2, an auto-synthesizer, for radiopharmaceutical labelling with 18F, has been developed, which can implement multiple chemical processes such as drying, fluoridation, purification, and can be used to synthesize multiple radiopharmaceuticals labeled with 18F. Compared with already commercialized auto-synthesizers, BNU F-A2 is multifunctional, more appropriate and inexpensive for use in research. For hardware, up to 9 solutions can be loaded in separate vials, and be controlled by solenoid valves. Reaction time and temperature can be setup with a large range. For software, modular programming is used to separate the chemical processes into serial steps. The auto-synthesizer can be controlled manually, be wireless controlled, or operated by a workstation either automatically or step-by-step. [18F]FMISO and [18F]FET were synthesized using this auto-synthesizer. Such pilot studies indicated that BNU F-A2 was flexible hardwarewise, and friendly softwarewise. It is a powerful and efficient instrument for research and exploitation of radiopharmaceuticals.
