Abstract

A method has been developed for the determination of nine sensitizing disperse dyes in dyeing wastewater by solid phase extraction-ultra performance liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (SPE-UPLC-ESI-MS/MS). The samples were extracted and purified by solid phase extraction. UPLC separation was performed on an ACQUITY UPICTM BEH C18 column utilizing a gradient elution program of acetonitrile and acidified water (containing 2% acetonitrile, 0.2% formic acid, 0. 005 mol/L ammonium, pH 2.7) as the mobile phase. Identification and quantification were achieved by UPLC-ESI-MS/MS in positive mode and multiple reactions monitoring. Good linearity was observed in the range of 5—1000 μg/L with correlation coefficients in the range of 0.9929—0. 9999, limit of detection (LOD) for the nine sensitizing dyes was in the ranges of 0.05—2.48 μg/L. The recoveries ranged from 70.0% to 109%. The application of this method was demonstrated by analyzing sensitizing disperse dyes' residual concentration in five dyeing enterprise wastewater. Disperse blue 106 and disperse blue 35 were not detected. The detect concentration of other seven sensitizing disperse dyes was more than 40 tg/L.
