摘要

Abstract

Excessive user location updates are generated due to users local movement in traditional location update algorithms. This paper analyzed the drawback of traditional movement-based location update algorithm, and proposed a new method to solve this problem. The new method improved the performance of location update algorithms through introducing two new threshold parameters. Extensive simulations based on a three-tier hierarchical mobility database structure were performed and the performance of proposed algorithm was compared with the traditional movement-based algorithm. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm decreases the number of local update messages significantly and reduces “Ping-Pong” effect efficiently.
