Abstract

Aluminum titanate ceramics with both moderate high strength and low thermal expansion were prepared by using Mg-doped aluminum titanate solid solution powders as raw material and potassium feldspar as sintering additives. The effects of potassium feldspar additives on the sintering behavior, microstructure, mechanical property and thermal expansion behavior were investigated by observing the fracture morphology and measuring the density, fiacture strength and thermal expansion curve. The results reveal that the introduction of potassium feldspar facilitates the sintering of Mg-doped aluminum titanate ceramics. The aluminum titanate ceramic with 8% in mass potassium feldspar prepared by sintering at 1440 ℃ for 4 h achieves a high relative density of 94%and simultaneously exhibits low thermal expansion coefficient of 0.94 x 10-6/℃ (room temperature -1 000 ℃) as well as moderate high strength of 44 MPa.
